You're Not Missing Anything!
We have seven standards that are written on a chalkboard in our family kitchen.
Two things matter — Honesty and Respect!
Your words are powerful; use them wisely.
Be kind to yourself & others.
Trust your inner guidance.
You were born with everything you need; you’re not missing anything.
Your calling in life is to express who you already are. Shine your light!
Happiness is a choice. Don’t Worry Be happy!
Before the new school year started, we sat our children down and went over these seven values. We discussed each one and asked our children if they had any questions about what was written on the chalkboard and why they are important. The one that presented the most questions, to my surprise, was number 5.
You are born with everything you need; you’re not missing anything!
What I wanted my children to realize with this statement is just how powerful they truly are. When they are scared, they can create peace within themselves. When they are anxious, they can slow their breath. When they are lonely, they can close their eyes and know that someone is always near. When they are facing peer pressure, they are strong enough to rise above.
When my seven-year-old pondered this, he asked, “what do you mean I’m not missing anything?” I could see his curious mind thinking about it literally, and in a way I wanted him to. I want my children to know that the POWER to every struggle, every trial, every question, all lies within themselves. They truly can overcome any obstacle.
YOU were not sent here by accident. YOU are not inadequate. YOU are powerful human beings with the ability to self-soothe, heal, and conquer any goal we want to reach!
Doesn’t that feel empowering to know you are whole? You are exactly as you should be! You’re not missing anything! When I have found myself in moments of struggle, I lean on this knowledge. I have what I need to conquer this, to overcome that, to provide for those I love, to teach others, to build an empire, to celebrate joy, and to love fully!
I’m sure each of my children took their unique perspective on this statement, along with the other six standards on the list, and I hope that they find the peace they need, in difficult times, within themselves and with the support of those who genuinely love them.
There is nothing I could teach my children that holds more significance than that. There is nothing more important that I could share with my friends, family, and followers, than the knowledge of knowing you are POWERFUL and YOU have everything you need inside of you, you aren’t missing anything!
